Thai Union Reinforces Global Ocean Commitment: Over 17 Tons of Marine Debris Collected Across 11 Countries, 4 Continents on World Oceans Day

BANGKOK – June 12, 2025 – Thai Union Group PCL (TU), a global leader in the seafood industry, has reaffirmed its commitment to ocean conservation through a series of clean-up activities held to mark World Oceans Day. In partnership with its subsidiaries and partners, Thai Union mobilized volunteers across 11 countries and four continents, successfully removing 17 tons of marine waste. This impactful achievement strengthens the Company’s commitment under its SeaChange® 2030 sustainability strategy to divert 1,500 tons of ocean-bound plastic from waterways and oceans.
"As a global seafood company, sustainability is central to how we operate,” said Adam Brennan, Chief Sustainability and Communications Officer at Thai Union, Ocean plastics are a growing global threat, with an estimated 200 million tons polluting our oceans due to poor disposal and waste management practices. Reducing plastic in the ocean is a key pillar of SeaChange® 2030, and we are proud to continue this work through targeted clean-ups, particularly in vital mangrove ecosystems that act as natural barriers for debris. Our close collaboration with the Global Ghost Gear Initiative (GGGI) is also vital in reducing discarded fishing gear worldwide, directly contributing to our overarching Ocean Plastics Reduction goal.”

More than 700 volunteers joined clean-up efforts globally, including staff from Thai Union and its subsidiaries, including i-Tail Corporation PCL, as well as representatives from the Company’s renowned brands like Chicken of the Sea, Petit Navire, Mareblu, and King Oscar. The initiative also received support from public and private sector partners. In Thailand, Thai Union collaborated with the Samut Sakhon Provincial Administrative Organization, Samut Sakhon Provincial Natural Resources and Environmental Office, Marine and Coastal Resources Office Region 8, Bang Ya Praek Sub-district Administrative Organization, Samut Sakhon Provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office, Samut Sakhon Provincial Culture Office, Samut Sakhon Urban Development Social Enterprise Co., Ltd., the Village Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Volunteer Network (TASM), local schools, and international schools, to restore the health of Thailand's coastal areas.

“This year along, our activities expanded to 11 countries across four continents, including Thailand, the U.S., Ghana, Seychelles, the UK, Norway, the Netherlands, France, Germany, Italy and Poland, covering mangroves, rivers, beaches, and areas adjacent to Thai Union's facilities. These efforts not only remove harmful waste but also build long-term environmental awareness and empower communities to protect their local ecosystems.” said Prad Kerdpairoj, Director of Sustainability for Pet, Feed & Marine Ingredients at Thai Union.

"As a long-standing business deeply rooted in Samut Sakhon province, i-Tail takes pride in contributing to the health of our local environment,” said Supawadee Sittijamroenkun, General Manager of i-Tail Corporation. Our clean-up efforts go beyond collecting trash – they inspire a shared responsibility among government, business, and citizens to protect our oceans for future generations."

All collected waste were sorted and logged following International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) guidelines for marine debris data. Recyclable materials were sent to local waste management companies for appropriate processing, while non-recyclable items were responsibly converted into fuel through partnerships with relevant local authorities and specialized companies, ensuring a comprehensive and environmentally conscious approach.
